During the New Year and Christmas holidays, the Russian Railways holding plans to appoint about 1,000 additional trains to depart from December 23, 2022 to January 9, 2023. This is stated in the message on the company's website.
“In total, about 4.5 million seats will be provided in additional trains this New Year's period. Today, the number of sold seats on long-distance trains for trips during the winter holidays is almost 80% higher than the results of the same period last year. Passengers have already issued over 1.5 million travel documents for the indicated dates,” the Russian Railways said.
If the demand for travel during the New Year and holidays continues to grow, additional carriages will be included in the already scheduled trains.
It is predicted that the peak departure dates for passengers will be December 29 and 30, 2022, as well as January 6, 7 and 8, 2023.
Additional trains will run on the most popular routes connecting Moscow and St. Petersburg with the largest regional centers, as well as on a number of popular interregional routes.
“Tourist routes are very popular with passengers during the New Year holidays. On these dates, more than 10 tourist trains will depart from Moscow and other regional centers (for example, trains Samara - Saransk - Moscow - Samara, Petrozavodsk - Mountain Park "Ruskeala" - Sortavala, "Winter Fairy Tale", "To Siberia", "To Karelia" )”, - noted in the Russian Railways.
In addition, to ensure the transportation of guests and spectators of the Russian Christmas festival, on January 6, 7 and 8, additional Lastochkas will run on the Moscow-Shuya-Ivanovo route. And for lovers of winter sports, "Ski Arrows" have been appointed from Moscow to Apatity, from Rostov-on-Don to Rosa Khutor and along intra-regional routes.
