Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka Warns Tourists Against Catching Animals and Insects

The Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka has reminded tourists about the importance of adhering to local laws, including those related to environmental protection. The collection of flora and fauna on the island is strictly prohibited and may result in fines or even imprisonment.

The ban applies not only to national parks and nature reserves but also to non-designated lands. Catching insects and marine animals anywhere in the country is forbidden, with the exception of organized fishing activities.

The embassy urged tourists not to fall for the tricks of unscrupulous fellow countrymen who may ask them to "bring a few rare ants for an entomological collection" or "catch marine creatures for a decent reward."
