An international scientific and educational center will be established on the Svalbard archipelago to study the Arctic permafrost, atmosphere, and hydrosphere, said Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev.
"The Arctic largely determines the world's climate stability. We must think about the future, even if some of our foreign colleagues forget about it. Therefore, we must continue to study the permafrost, atmosphere, and hydrosphere of the Arctic zone. To address this issue, a new international scientific and educational center will be established on the archipelago," he said, speaking at a meeting of the government commission on ensuring Russia's presence on Svalbard.
According to Trutnev, the center will be used to conduct joint Arctic scientific and educational projects with foreign countries, primarily ‘friendly’ ones.
