The Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia and Roskosmos (Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities) announced the creation of digital space monitoring for effective control of forest management, waste management and environmental monitoring using remote sensing of the Earth (ERS) from space. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources.

This system will allow to quickly receive information on the state and status of the use of natural resources and lands, track the activity of economic entities and the potential economic effect of their activities.

The statement was made following a meeting between Dmitry Kobylkin, Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment of the Russian Federation, and Dmitry Rogozin, Director General of the State Corporation Roscosmos.

“The environmental agenda is ubiquitous and concerns every citizen, and the topic of ecology will never fade into the background. The creation of a unified space monitoring system will help prevent natural disasters and man-made accidents, as well as ensure greater environmental safety of the country. The work is difficult, but I am absolutely convinced that thanks to our joint work, we will establish this system,” Dmitry Kobylkin emphasized.

“Space can and should be useful to the state. Together with the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, we will establish a system of digital space inspection of our country's natural resources and objects of special attention that are harmful to the environment or are negatively affected by pollutants. For this, in parallel with the development of the orbital constellation, we are improving the infrastructure on Earth,” noted Dmitry Rogozin.
