Ecotourism in Crimea aims to preserve the environment
Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology Alexander Kozlov and Mongolian Minister of Environment and Climate Change Saldangiin Odontuya have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on preserving Lake Baikal and the Selenga River. This was reported on the website of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources.
"We have a practical dialogue with Mongolia. We discuss many issues related to environmental protection and natural resource management. The memorandum is a legal basis on which we will build further interaction," Kozlov's words are quoted in the message.
As noted in the ministry, Mongolia is experiencing an energy deficit, so it is interested in building a hydroelectric power station on the Egiin-Gol River.
Earlier at the SCO summit, the President of Mongolia, in a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin,proposed discussing such a possibility, the message says. The parties need to conduct extensive research to study the impact of hydropower plant construction on the climatic, biological, and hydrological processes in the Baikal and Selenga ecosystem, which is the main source of water for the lake.
This is necessary to ensure the safety of the ecosystem in the border territories.
