The resort has been practicing responsible waste management since 2018.
For over 6 years, Rosa Khutor has been consistently implementing an environmental initiative to collect recyclable materials from waste generated on its territory. Its own service for collecting and removing recyclables and effective interaction with hotels and businesses operating at the resort allow it to redirect about two dozen tons of recyclable waste from landfills to the recycling market every month.
"Almost half of the waste generated at the resort is useful recyclable material. It is obvious that it should not be in a landfill, but in recycling, playing a useful role in the economy and not polluting the environment," said Dmitry Kolosov, Director of Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development at the Rosa Khutor resort.
The organized collection of recyclables covers the entire business sector of Rosa Khutor – about 200 diverse businesses: shops, cafes, restaurants, hotels, etc. Every day they produce a significant amount of waste, ensuring separate accumulation of recyclable and mixed solid municipal waste. The recyclable materials collection service provides free and uninterrupted removal of recyclable waste and transfers it to the recycling market.
"The need for responsible waste management is dictated by simple considerations of rationality. Separating recyclable waste from the general flow and sending it to the recycling market allows us to reduce waste removal costs, and this benefit is received by both the resort and the businesses operating here. The removal of waste from one standard container today costs us just over 900 rubles. The estimated monthly volume of recyclable waste generated is more than 900 containers, which we divide approximately in half with our tenants. Thus, our total average annual savings approach 10 million rubles, which is a considerable amount," explained Dmitry Kolosov.
Thanks to the organization of separate waste collection, Rosa Khutor resort sent 217 tons of cardboard and paper, 9.5 tons of plastic, and almost 40 tons of glass for recycling in 2024. From the start of the project in 2018 to the present, 1,443.4 tons of recyclable materials have been collected from the waste generated at the resort.
