Representatives of the resort took part in a meeting of the Council on the development of the sanatorium and tourist complex, chaired by the head of the city Alexei Kopaygorodsky. The event, timed to coincide with the municipal Year of Ecology, discussed upcoming projects in the field of environmental conservation.
“The fact that 2022 has been declared the year of ecology in Sochi suggests that environmental issues are coming to the fore and are closely looked at. The Rosa Khutor resort has extensive experience in implementing a sustainable development strategy, which we are ready to share,” said Alexander Belokobylsky, General Director of the Rosa Khutor resort.
In accordance with the sustainable development strategy announced in 2018, Rosa Khutor adheres to the policy of preserving natural and historical heritage, caring for the future generation and a cohesive team, efficient resource management and responsible waste management.
“The Rosa Khutor hotel fund consists of about 3,000 rooms, the resort generates more than 2,500 jobs, about 200 different businesses operate in our territory, ranging from large hotels, shops and restaurants to small businesses. Adhering to the policy of responsible waste management since 2018, we have managed to form an internal service for the recyclables. And now, on average, every month from the territory of the resort we send about 16 tons of paper, one ton of plastic, five tons of glass to the recycling market. That is, more than 20 tons of recyclable waste does not end up in garbage trucks, is not sent to landfills and does not load the utility system," said Dmitry Kolosov, director for sustainable development of the Rosa Khutor resort.
Another area of sustainable development of the resort is the conservation of biodiversity. In addition to mandatory activities, a network of animal feeders is being developed at the complex, and animals are being monitored.
“Last year, the Rosa Khutor resort, the Interros company, the Sochi National Park and the Caucasus Nature Reserve signed a memorandum of cooperation in ensuring the good neighborliness of animals and people in the territory intended for recreation.
The action plan, designed for a three to five year perspective, will be developed by spring, and after its formation we will be ready to share a new approach to business not only with the enterprises of the mountain cluster, but with the whole of Greater Sochi, since the zone of contact between people and wild animals is not limited to the territory of the resort,” Dmitry Kolosov emphasized.
As support for the educational activities of the Year of Ecology in Sochi, the Rosa Khutor resort announced its readiness to provide organized school groups, thanks to which the students of the city will be able to get to know their native land better during field lessons in geography and biology, as well as engage in active tourism and educational excursions.
Within the framework of the meeting of the Council for the development of the sanatorium-resort and tourist complex, the hotels of the Rosa Khutor resort were awarded the Green Key certificate. The international program of voluntary environmental certification of hotel business institutions is aimed at reducing the negative impact on the environment, promoting the implementation of sustainable management of the hotel business, as well as improving environmental culture and education in the field of sustainable development. To receive a certificate, a facility must meet about 140 environmental criteria, including the reduction of resource consumption.
“For us, the Green Key certificate is a confirmation that we are a socially responsible business, this is one of the quality standards that is important for our guests. We constantly carry out activities to sort waste, clean up the territory, to involve children in the environmental agenda, we try to return to the city and nature what we get from it,” said Vladislav Podolyak, head of accommodation at the Radisson and Park Inn Rosa Khutor hotels.
Golden Key certificates were awarded to nine hotels in Sochi.
