The gods of ancient Greece adored ambrosia. They arranged endless feasts to enjoy the elixir of immortality - this is how ambrosia is translated from Latin. But the Romanian senators are not at all enthusiastic about the modern representative of the flora with such a romantic name. Recently, the Romanian Senate passed a bill tightening the rules for the fight against ragweed, which flooded the fields of this Balkan country. From now on, every land user will be obliged to destroy the harmful weed during the entire growing season.

The harmful plant was harassed before, but they did it only in June. However, the high ability to reproduce - one ragweed shoot produces tens of thousands of seeds - forced to strengthen control measures. High fines will be imposed on those who do not remove the ragweed from the period of the appearance of its first inflorescences to the end of the growing season. It is proposed to do this by beveling, uprooting or herbicide treatment. Despite the harmfulness of the latter, the danger of ragweed to ecosystems and human health requires urgent action. After all, this weed not only causes severe cases of allergies, dries up the earth and oppresses other types of plants. Ambrosia is able to change the structure of the soil, causing an increase in the temperature of the surface air layer and even changing the microclimate of the area.

In order to stop the spread of the harmful weed, the Senate of Romania adopted the relevant initiative with 99 percent of the votes.
