In the 2024/25 winter season, Romania offers sports enthusiasts more than 200 certified ski slopes. This was announced by the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism of Romania.
As part of the General Tourism Investment Plan, implemented by the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism since 2009, 16 investment projects have been financed and completed, with over 660 million lei (132.66 million euros) allocated. As a result, over 15 years, 42 ski slopes have been developed, most of which are located in the central part of the country, not far from each other.
The most famous of Romania's ski resorts, Poiana Brașov, is located in Brașov County, just 13 km from the ancient city of Brașov, known for its beautiful streets filled with historical landmarks. Poiana Brașov offers skiers 10 slopes suitable for both beginners and professional athletes, as well as giant slalom runs. The resort also features two ski jumps and illuminated slopes for those who enjoy night skiing. One of the major advantages of the resort is the lack of queues at the ski lifts.
The neighboring resort of Sinaia, in addition to excellent ski slopes, offers fantastic runs for sledding and 20 km of cross-country skiing trails. Located 25 km from Sinaia, the Predeal resort is the highest in the country, with all of its slopes situated in pine forest clearings. Predeal is famous for its wind-free conditions and reliable snow cover for up to 100 days.
Thanks to targeted investments in winter tourism, Romania is gradually becoming an increasingly popular destination for Europeans. In recent years, the country has seen record levels of foreign tourist arrivals.
