Specialists have summed up the results of the calving of muskoxen from the Ingilor natural park - since the beginning of April, 29 individuals have been born in its enclosures. This was reported by the portal of the government of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YNAO).

"Every year, about 20 muskox calves are born in the Yamal nursery, located in the Ingilor natural park. The previous breeding record was in 2023. Then 28 calves were born," the message says.

During calving, the animals were under the supervision of inspectors, and a silence regime was in place on the territory of the enclosures for the peace of the muskoxen. At this time, the entry of tourists to the territory was prohibited.

"Now the muskoxen have grown up and feel confident in the enclosures. At the beginning of the month, young grass was introduced into the diet of the animals. Adult individuals actively take care of the offspring. In case of danger, these animals do not panic, but take a defensive position, lining up in a circle, inside which are the calves - the most expensive thing that is in the herd," the portal quotes the Acting Head of the Department for the Protection of Wildlife of the Department of Natural Resources and Ecology of the YNAO Vitaly Borisjuk.

This year, for the first time, the Yamal people chose a name for one of the calves. He was named Nikolaich - in honor of the park inspector who saved him.

"Ingilor" is the largest muskox nursery in the world, occupying over 900 thousand hectares of land. Today, the aviary complex houses more than 120 musk oxen. Over the past five years, about 80 individuals have been released into the wild. According to experts, more than 200 muskoxen live outside the enclosures on Yamal.
