Scientific expeditions in the territory of the national park were carried out in two stages - from 1 to 30 June and from 13 August to 9 September. Scientists have obtained rare data on spring phenomena in the life of Arctic birds, which expanded scientific knowledge about the protected area, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia.

So, in June, at the northern tip of Novaya Zemlya (Southern cluster of protected areas) in the area of Cape Zhelaniya, participants of the Arctic Floating University recorded a tundra bean with a camera. The finding of this species of anseriformes in the north of Novaya Zemlya was documented for the first time in the history of the national park, and this is the merit of the hunting inspector Pavel Futoran.

Earlier in the "Russian Arctic" such species of anseriformes were noted, as the small swan, white-fronted goose, short-billed and tundra bean goose, Atlantic goose, common eider and comb, mallard, pintail, great merganser, long-tailed duck, the ministry said.

At the beginning of summer, PA staff recorded several bird species that are not so common in the second half of the summer.

In particular, we observed several species of sandpipers, the status of which is not entirely clear for our territories, and Atlantic geese, which, due to their Red Data Book status, especially attract the attention of specialists. This is a good addition to the collection of the Novaya Zemlya cluster of avifauna ", the deputy director of the «Russian Arctic» for scientific work Ivan Mizin was quoted as saying in the message of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
