American rapper Akon, whose parents are from Senegal, announced his intention to invest in the construction of a tourist destination in this African country that will bear his name-Akon City.
The 46-year-old author of the hits "Locked Up" and "Smack That" has already signed a Memorandum of understanding with the Senegalese state-owned company Sapco, which is engaged in improving tourist areas in Senegal.
According to media reports, the rapper intends to build Akon City near the village of Mbodiène, located on the Atlantic ocean coast 110 km South of Dakar, the capital of Senegal.
The amount of investments has not yet been determined, but the construction of a hotel and shopping complex on an area of several dozen hectares, which will be fully powered by renewable energy sources, may take about 10 years.
