Pickets were held in the center of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, near the archaeological and historical museums. However, these actions were not connected with tourist attractions, but with the protection of animals. Moreover, the activists' calls did not concern the protection of homeless animals, as is more often the case. This time, the residents of Plovdiv demanded punishment for the owner of a domestic dog that had been tortured for a long time.
An injured female pit bull named Jessie was found in a semi-conscious state by students from one of the city's gymnasiums. After contacting the police, the owner of the unfortunate dog was identified. He turned out to be a local resident. A well-off and well-known criminal citizen with sadistic inclinations, he beat the defenseless animal, and when the exhausted dog stopped reacting to the violence, he simply threw her out on the street.
Caring people picked up Jessie and took her to a veterinary clinic. Money was raised for the dog's treatment with the help of the media. Now Jessie is undergoing rehabilitation in her new foster family. And animal rights activists are demanding that the dog's former owner, who is guilty of violence, be brought to justice. However, the case has stalled, as it is suspected, due to the corrupt connections of the accused.
Actions demanding a fair trial in connection with the cruel treatment of Jessie have been held in Plovdiv for the third time. And the place for their holding was not chosen by chance: the halls of the neighboring museums contain unique images of animals, including in the form of golden rhytons of the famous Panagyurishte treasure. The Thracians who inhabited these places in ancient times deified animals, which speaks to the high level of their civilization. Residents and guests of the modern metropolis also demand respectful treatment of pets and a fair trial for violators of Article 325b of the Bulgarian law.
