The number of bookings for eco-hotels has grown by 40% in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year, the Russian Union of Tourist Industry (RST) reports on its website.

"In the modern world, the issue of environmental protection is becoming increasingly acute. Many tourists want to have an eco-friendly vacation, minimizing the impact on the ecosystem, eating organically clean products, and relaxing in secluded, picturesque places in order to feel a connection with nature," - the RST explains this trend.

Thus, the Krasnodar Territory leads the top three in this direction - 42% of bookings in eco-hotels.

According to the RST, in Sochi most of these facilities are located in natural reserves, in the territories adjacent to them,in the valleys of mountain rivers. In Anapa, these hotels can be found in Sukko, Maly Utrish, Blagoveshchenskaya. In Gelendzhik - in the area of Tonky Cape, Golubaya Bukhta.

The second place in terms of the number of bookings in eco-hotels was shared by the Moscow Region and the Middle Strip (Vladimirskaya, Tulskaya, Kaluga and Ryazan oblasts) - 20%, with Altai on the third - 13%.

The RST identified a number of reasons that attract tourists to eco-resorts.

One of them is related to the fact that travelers are interested in relaxing in ecologically clean areas.

"Eco-hotels are inscribed in the natural landscape. Most of the facilities are located in forests, near small lakes, in the mountains, in a quiet area away from the hustle and bustle of the city," the union noted.

In addition, for many it is important that buildings or individual buildings, cottages are built from natural materials.

"The interiors are often decorated in an alpine or rustic style: wooden furniture, a minimum of decorations and details, large panoramic windows overlooking the natural beauties. Also in the hotel rooms / eco-park there can be A-frame houses, tree houses, glamping in the form of glass spheres and yurts," - the message says.

Another reason is environmental care. Many eco-hotels advocate for a respectful attitude to natural resources and implement "green technologies": they install LED lamps, purify and reuse water, strive to switch to alternative energy sources, and refuse to use "aggressive" chemical cleaning agents.

Comfortable conditions in many of them and the romance of outdoor recreation also play an important role in choosing an eco-hotel.

Ecotourism is often combined with agro- and gastronomic tourism.

"An eco-hotel may have its own farm and cheese dairy, offering a menu of local organically clean products, as well as shops where you can buy farm products," the RST noted.

Many travelers are looking for opportunities for digital detox - a number of eco-hotels are located in remote places where there is no internet.

In addition, often in such establishments they offer relaxation for both the soul and the body - wellness and spa programs, spiritual and energy practices. For example, yoga tours are periodically held there.

Outdoor activities also attract tourists - they can spend time fishing, go cycling or horseback riding.
