The press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources announced the completion of seasonal work in Antarctica. The polar explorers completed all the planned scientific and production tasks in full and returned to St. Petersburg aboard the research expedition vessel "Akademik Tryoshnikov".
The tasks of the polar explorers included the study of global climate change, oceanographic work in the marginal seas of the Antarctic, and geological and geophysical research. The work was carried out at all Russian stations in the Antarctic.
"Polar explorers carried out year-round observations under a comprehensive program for monitoring the natural environment of the Antarctic. Comprehensive studies of the atmosphere, monitoring of the Earth's global albedo, geomagnetic observations of the impact of the interplanetary magnetic field, solar corpuscular and ultraviolet radiation on human life were carried out," the report says.
In addition, polar explorers tracked temperature anomalies and the circulation of the atmosphere, sea and continental ice, conducted seismological monitoring and other studies. A wide range of work carried out concerned the modernization of the infrastructure of Russian Antarctic stations.
Head of the Russian Antarctic Expedition Alexander Klepikov said that Russian polar explorers not only successfully implement their projects, but also continue to cooperate with foreign colleagues.
