The annual marathon in the Italian city of Pisa will take place on December 15th for the 25th time.
The route, dedicated to art, history, and nature, starts and finishes in the famous Piazza del Duomo, which is over a thousand years old. This was announced by the official Italian tourism portal.
After covering the first few kilometers through the city, participants will cross the San Rossore natural park and reach the sea. On the return journey, athletes will run along the historic Arno River before finishing at the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa.
The main race and the non-competitive race will be held over a distance of 42.195 kilometers. In addition, a half marathon (21.097 km) will be held.
As the portal notes, in addition to being a sporting event, the marathon offers participants a unique opportunity to discover the ancient Piazza del Duomo and get acquainted with the most striking monuments and museums of Pisa.
This square is one of the most famous examples of medieval architecture. It houses such masterpieces as Pisa Cathedral, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Baptistery, and the Campo Santo cemetery. This architectural ensemble is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
