The massive pest years are larger than last year's. Throughout the city, there are rows of dying palms.

«For the first time in Sochi, this pest was noted in 2014, and two years later the first palm trees dried up. The problem is so acute that it is under the control of the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Alexander Kozlov. Besides the palm moth, the red weevil, a large tropical beetle eating up tree trunks, also damages palm trees,» the press service of the Sochi National Park said.

An experiment on the use of chemicals to save palm trees in Sochi has already started and will continue throughout the year. In many parts of the city, you can see palm trees with balloons suspended under the crowns of leaves, with branch pipes that introduce chemical protection from pests at the point of plant growth.

«It is planned to apply the experience gained to the entire urban area, but, unfortunately, palm trees are dying faster than expected. In any case, all dried palm trees must be destroyed, with the burning of trunks and leaves, since the introduction of butterfly larvae from the ones laid by it is up to 140 eggs occur through the base of the petioles of palm leaves,» emphasized the Sochi National Park press service.
