The launch of the electric train between Sochi and Gagra is due to the high demand for travel between Russia and Abkhazia.

  • Since its launch, the Lastochka has transported 73,105 tourists. Since the beginning of 2024, there have been 23,222 passengers, with the most in June - 7,890, the press service of the Republican Unitary Enterprise Abkhazskaya Zheleznodorozhnaya (Abkhaz Railway) (RUP "Abkhazskaya Zheleznodorozhnaya") (UZhD) reported.

In 2024, a test run of the electric train from Sochi to the railway station in Sukhum took place. Work is already underway that will allow the Lastochka to run regularly to the capital of Abkhazia.
