The Main State Expertise of Russia has issued a positive conclusion on the project for the restoration and adaptation to modern use of the old Orangery in the Vykhino-Zhulebino district.
"The Orangery, or Orange Dacha, is a federal cultural heritage site. It was built in 1815 for growing oranges, lemons, and other citrus fruits. But since the building has not been used since 2007, specialists will have to carry out extensive restoration work," said the project's chief expert, Konstantin Korsakov, a representative of the Main State Expertise, whose words are quoted on the agency's website.
The building consisted of three parts - a central one with high ceilings for the largest trees and two side ones. The new layout will include, among other things, exhibition halls with a photo zone and a room for gathering excursion groups.
"Specialists will restore the facade and interior decoration of the gallery using archival drawings and engravings. For example, the plans include updating the brickwork of the facades and plinth, dismantling the late partitions, putting in order the wooden fence of the belvedere, stucco decoration, chimneys and a metal spire," the statement says.
The doors and arches will also be repaired, the parquet flooring and Mettlach tiles will be recreated. In the grand hall, it is planned to restore the wooden staircase with forged railings and brick columns. Then the Empire two-tier chandelier will be returned to the building, which will also be updated.
In addition, it is planned to repair all communications and engineering networks, and to install an alarm system. It is also necessary to develop a design project for the facade lighting.
