Norilsk Nickel President Vladimir Potanin and Murmansk Region Governor Andrey Chibis signed an agreement on cooperation in the development of the region.

According to the document, by 2025 Norilsk Nickel will invest about 90 billion rubles in the development of the Murmansk region. Within the framework of the agreement, a number of social and economic initiatives will be implemented: the company will participate in the modernization of regional medical institutions, finance the construction of a year-round ice arena in Monchegorsk, help improve the urban environment in settlements of the Arctic, create an educational program for local universities in order to train highly qualified specialists in demand for sites of the Kola MMC.

Part of the funds allocated by Norilsk Nickel will go to the further development of the so-called “green”, environmentally friendly metallurgy in the Murmansk region.

“We are going to invest in the creation of a fundamentally new technological production following our so-called “Copper Chain ... ’’ said Vladimir Potanin. … We are also looking to participate in the creation of an ecologically advanced resort. I hope that we will succeed in this project too .”
