Norilsk Nickel will allocate $ 5.5 billion to implement a new environmental strategy. According to the company, in the coming days the Norilsk Nickel Board of Directors will approve the corresponding program.

Norilsk Nickel has identified six key areas in the field of environmental protection and set targets that are planned to be achieved by 2030.

The company clarified that it is planned to spend $ 3.6 billion out of $ 5.5 billion on the Sulfur Program. The company intends to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by 95% by 2030.

According to Norilsk Nickel, in 2020 the intensity of pollutant emissions decreased by 20.7 percent compared to 2019, and the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions decreased by 23.3 percent.

In addition, the company has almost doubled the percentage of its electricity generated from renewable sources. This is one of the highest rates in the metallurgical industry.
