Ecotourism in Crimea aims to preserve the environment
Norilsk Nickel, one of the world's largest producers of non-ferrous metals, has released its 2024 Sustainable Development Report, reaffirming its commitment to responsible business practices and sustainable growth. The company allocated 374 billion rubles to sustainable development projects, representing 32% of its total annual revenue.
Among the key achievements is the complete fulfillment of obligations under the Sulfur Program. The company utilized 390,000 tons of sulfur dioxide, achieving a utilization rate of over 99%. This led to a 23.5% reduction in pollutant emissions.
The large-scale environmental initiative, "Clean Norilsk," continued its progress: 406 abandoned buildings were dismantled, 1.1 million tons of waste and 83.5 thousand tons of scrap metal were removed, and nearly 5 million square meters of territory were cleaned. Additionally, an eco-monitoring system with continuous air quality control was deployed.
In 2024, Norilsk Nickel achieved a record low fatality rate at its production facilities with three incidents, and the Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) was 0.64, aligning with global mining industry standards.
Through major renovations of 187 facilities, working and living conditions were improved for 11.8 thousand employees. A 10% salary indexation brought the average monthly salary to 207 thousand rubles, which is 2.1 times higher than the national average in Russia. The company also intends to develop scientific volunteering among its staff.
