“Our goal is to equate Arctic tourism and sustainable tourism. Arctic means sustainable,” said Andrey Grachev, Norilsk Nickel Vice President, at the conference “Sustainable Tourism: Global Challenges and Russian Perspective” (Rosa Khutor resort).
“It is important that we create a comfortable and accessible tourist infrastructure without violating the fragile ecology of the Far North,” said the top manager of the company.
Andrey Grachev noted the company's comprehensive approach to sustainable development issues in general. Talking about the positive effect on the environment of reducing the carbon footprint, he cited as an example the first certified batch of carbon-neutral nickel in the history of Norilsk Nickel in the amount of 5 thousand tons of nickel cathodes. The strategy in the field of ecology and climate change will reduce the harmful impact on the environment.
According to the Vice President, the implementation of the Social and Economic Development Program for Norilsk in Taimyr and the Program for the Social and Economic Development of the Pechenga District is a big step towards achieving the UN SDGs "Sustainable Cities and Communities".
“The company guarantees the environmental friendliness of its technologies, restoration and support of ecosystems, environmental education, expansion of social infrastructure, development of human capital, local communities and indigenous peoples,” said the top manager of the company.
“This multiplex effect is the principle of Norilsk Nickel's approach to the concept and implementation of sustainable development goals,” said Andrei Grachev.
