Cuba no longer requires foreign tourists arriving on the island to submit to a PCR test or an antigen test, as well as to provide documentary evidence of vaccination, the country's authorities announced.

The new measures were taken due to the high level of vaccination in Cuba, where most of the population received three doses of one of the national vaccines, as well as an additional strengthening dose, explained chief epidemiologist Francisco Duran.

Nevertheless, the sanitary and epidemiological authorities will continue to conduct random testing of passengers from countries with high rates of Covid-19 at the airport.

It remains mandatory to wear a mask in all public places.

Currently, 9.9 million Cubans, or 89.5% of the country's population, are fully vaccinated.

Cuba has developed its own coronavirus vaccines, which the authorities expect will soon be recognized by WHO.

Tourism is one of the main sources of income for Cuba. The island state is currently experiencing an acute economic crisis, and the influx of tourists remains insignificant.
