The press service of the Vodlozersky National Park has announced that during a recent research expedition, specialists surveyed the surrounding areas in search of rare and typical species of flora and fauna. They examined the shoreline of Lake Vodlozero and Lake Listvyanoe, as well as the territory near the Novguda River.

The main success of the expedition was the confirmation of the common stone loach inhabiting the Vodlozersky Park. This small fish had not been seen here for over 20 years. Scientists found three individuals under stones, and one of them was even photographed.

In addition, scientists encountered a new fungus for the park - the humped chanterelle. This small gray fungus is distinguished by its funnel-shaped cap and a tubercle in the center. Another find by specialists was an insect from the order of bugs - the water scorpion. It has not been previously recorded in the park. This insect resembles a leaf that has fallen into the water. Specialists also recorded a new habitat for the red-listed common flying squirrel.

The report notes that the expedition participants collected data on the distribution of other representatives of the animal and plant world in the protected area, including the white-tailed eagle, the common beaver, and some orchids.
