Russian Railways (RZD) announced on its Telegram channel the launch of a regular direct train service between Irkutsk and Barnaul starting from December 15th. Currently, it is only possible to travel between the two cities with a transfer. The new route will connect iconic tourist destinations in Siberia.
"The direct route will not only increase transport accessibility for residents of five regions: Irkutsk and Kemerovo regions, the Republic of Khakassia, Krasnoyarsk and Altai Territories, but also create new opportunities for tourists. The train will allow you to reach the Belokurikha resort, the Sheregesh ski slopes, Lake Baikal and other iconic locations," the message says.
The train will consist of compartment and reserved seating cars equipped with air conditioning and bio-toilets. Tickets are already on sale.
