The Vodlozersky National Park has opened a renovated "Island of Arts". This open-air art gallery has become a new attraction in the protected area. It appeared on Velikostrov Island in 2022, and two years later, artists returned to the national park with fresh ideas.
"New art objects have significantly expanded the space of the art gallery, as well as added new textures and colors. The central figure of the "Island of Arts" exhibition is the bright red "Bird", created from metal by Vladimir Zorin. The fantastic image was born based on the embroidery of the Pudozh region," the national park reported on its website.
The most fragile art object in the park is "Grains". It was created by the St. Petersburg artist Nikita Moiseev. Five glass grains are similar in appearance but differ in pattern and color scheme inside, reflecting in mirrors along with juniper, herbs, trees, and the northern Vodlozero sky.
The sculpture that is immediately visible as soon as you enter the modern art museum of Vodlozero is "Flower - Sun",created by the St. Petersburg artist Ekaterina Fedorova.
This new art object is installed in the center of the field; it is a complex multi-ray composition made of metal, reaching for the sky.
In total, five new works by artists and one created by children have appeared in the park.
"The island is large, and I hope that we will continue to fill it with interesting objects. Velikostrov is located near the village of Kuganavolok, which gives both local residents the opportunity to get acquainted with contemporary art and our tourists from all over Russia to take a walk through a wonderful open-air museum," says Vladislav Malberg, head of the Vodlozero branch of the national park.
