The press service of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia has reported that in the first half of 2024, 38.8 million tourists stayed in hotels and other collective accommodation options. This represents an increase of 11.8% compared to the previous year.
Additionally, the number of foreign tourists who utilized Russian hotel services rose by 42.4%. In total, 1.8 million foreigners spent time in hotels. The report highlights a growing influx of tourists from Gulf countries and the Asia-Pacific region.
Last year, the capacity of Russian hotels, sanatoriums, and other collective accommodation facilities increased by nearly 60,000 rooms. In 2023, the total number of guests residing in hotels and other collective lodging reached 83.6 million.
The report states that the national project "Tourism and Hospitality Industry" helps support growth points in the Russian tourism market. In various regions, glamping sites and campgrounds are being developed with the help of government subsidies, auto tourism is expanding, and a program for preferential lending for major investment projects is in place.
Participants discussed the boundary between nature and ecotourism, whether mass visits to unique areas can remain safe, the responsibilities of investors, and how to prepare tourists for visiting specially protected natural areas.
The head of state expressed confidence that the Forum will be held at a high level, and that its results will contribute to the development of tourism in Russia and the expansion of humanitarian and business ties.
