The press service of the administration of St. Petersburg reported that approximately 5 million tourists visited the northern capital in the first half of this year. This is a 20% increase compared to the same period last year.
"Most often, tourists arriving in St. Petersburg are from Moscow, accounting for one in five airline tickets. They are followed by travelers from Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, and Chelyabinsk," the statement said.
Moreover, 14% of all domestic bookings for round-trip flights within Russia are for St. Petersburg, indicating its growing appeal to travelers.
Tourists are drawn not only by world-famous landmarks but also by new attractions and large public spaces, such as "Fort Island," New Holland, the Duma Tower, and the Annenkirche. Audio tours of the city's historic center are also quite popular.
The statement noted that family tourism is actively developing in the city. In recent years, the share of family travelers has increased by nearly 15%, reaching 53% of the total tourist flow.
