The Benefit Your City project has been implemented in Sochi since 2018. In the fall of 2020, the Rosa Khutor resort joined it. In cooperation with the recycling company Vostok LLC, Baltika provided the resort with 24 containers for collecting recyclable materials (glass). As a result, only last year Rosa Khutor collected and transferred for processing about 60 tons of used glass packaging. In total, over 10,000 tons of glass waste was collected in Sochi during the implementation of the project.
In addition to containers, the resort also has a modern technological packaging collection machine. A fandomat is a “smart” container that not only accepts empty containers (plastic, aluminum or glass), but also sorts them by reading the barcode from the label, thus avoiding mixing types of packaging. One device is designed for 400-500 containers up to 0.5 liters, which is approximately 10-15 kg of recyclables.
The machine by Ecoplatform, recently installed at the Rosa Khutor resort, accepts plastic bottles from 0.2 to 2 liters, as well as aluminum cans of drinks.
The Baltika Company and the Rosa Khutor Resort are systematically working to minimize their ecological footprint. Since 2013, Baltika has been developing the Benefit Your City project to collect packaging waste for recycling, independently following the principle of extended producer responsibility and fulfilling voluntary obligations to reduce the eco-footprint of products.
In the southern region, containers for separate collection of recyclables are installed in the cities of Rostov-on-Don, Volgodonsk, Pyatigorsk, Kislovodsk, Sochi and others.
In accordance with the strategy announced in 2018, Rosa Khutor is developing the sustainable development agenda in seven key areas: unique experiences for guests, preservation of natural and historical heritage, care for the future generation and a cohesive team, efficient resource management and responsible waste management .
In the recently published second edition of the corporate non-financial report, the resort announced the results: for 2018-2021, the specific electricity consumption there was reduced by 16%, gas - by 33%, water - by 24%. The collection of recyclable waste did not remain in vain: on average, the resort sends more than 16 tons of cardboard and paper, a ton of plastic and about 5 tons of glass to the recycling market every month. These figures cover about 40% of the total volume of waste generated at the resort.
