The Associated Press reported that French President Emmanuel Macron supported a large-scale reconstruction of the Louvre. The last time it was carried out in the 1980s. Now it is planned to expand the museum, which will allow the legendary masterpiece of Leonardo da Vinci "Mona Lisa" to be moved to a separate hall.

The reconstruction of the Louvre is expected to take up to ten years. The project is called "Louvre: A New Renaissance". As part of it, in particular, it is planned to create a new entrance to the museum from the Seine River. According to the President of France, it may be opened by 2031. The update will make the museum safer and more comfortable for visitors and staff.

It is expected that after the reconstruction, the "Mona Lisa" can be seen in a separate hall, access to which will be carried out with a special ticket. This measure will allow more visitors to see the masterpiece in comfortable conditions. Now the picture is exhibited in the largest hall of the Louvre under a protective glass. There is traditionally a hype around it and long queues of people wishing to take a selfie.

Macron noted that the construction of a new entrance to the Louvre will be financed by ticket sales, donations and other revenues. The exact cost of expenses is unknown.

Earlier, French media reported that the director of the Louvre, Laurence de Cars, sent a note to the country's Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, in which she expressed concern about the emergency condition of the museum building.
