On July 20th, Palace Square in Saint Petersburg will transform into a giant interactive chessboard. A theatrical performance will feature actual grandmasters playing a game, with artists in thematic costumes serving as the pieces. This information is provided in the VisitPetersburg Telegram channel.

"The first live chess battle on the square took place in 1924, featuring the strongest chess players in the city, masters of sport Ilya Rabinovich and Peter Romankovsky. A century later, the tradition has been revived," the message reads.

An event program full of activities, photo zones, games, and lectures awaits festival guests. Artists will paint a chess piece in the form of a pawn. Near the main stage, a masterclass in classical dance, where participants will learn the polonaise, will be held for everyone interested.

The event is tied to the International Chess Day, celebrated annually on July 20th. Entry to the festival is free.
