The indigenous people of Lapland, the Sami are outraged by the behavior of tour operators, spreading insulting rumors about them, says TOI.

As EcoTourism Expert came to know, representatives of the tourism industry are trying to cash in on the ancient Sami culture, introducing them as a primitive people.

According to Tiina Sanila-Aikio, president of Finland's Sami Parliament, almost every day people come to the Sami region and want to see shamans and witches.

In this regard, the Sami Parliament has issued guidelines on the “ethically responsible” behavior of tour operators in the region.

Lapland is a region in Northern Europe that is inhabited by the Sami and which is considered the "homeland" of Santa Claus.

On the territory of Lapland, there is a Santa Claus amusement park with ice castles and an igloo. You can also ride snowmobiles and reindeer in the park.

During the Christmas holidays, the region is under great pressure from the increasing influx of tourists.
