The Land of the Leopard National Park in Primorsky Krai is installing camera traps in new areas. This will provide additional data on the behavior and distribution of Red Book animals - the Far Eastern leopard and the Amur tiger, the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources reported on its website.
"Land of the Leopard" has the largest photo monitoring network among the reserves and national parks of Russia. More than 450 camera traps, system-distributed automatic cameras that react to movement, help to observe the behavioral features of wild animals. Every year, these cameras bring gigabytes of unique photos and videos with rare animals, which are then manually processed by specialists,” the department noted.
Twice a year, the researchers of the "Land of the Leopard" carry out a routine check of camera traps - upload data from SD cards, change batteries. At the same time, new monitoring points are being introduced - the so-called stations.
“Scientists install one or two cameras at the station. One - to observe the behavior of the beast. Two - to capture a leopard or tiger from two sides and then identify the individual by the pattern on the skin, ”the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources said.
