The Kenyan government is set to revise visa and Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) requirements, which will help attract cruise tourists, according to media reports citing President William Ruto.
Xinhua news agency quoted the president as saying that the multiple-entry eTA will make it easier for cruise tourists seeking to explore Mombasa to move between cruise ships and the city without requiring approval each time they leave the cruiser.
"We will be changing our visa and eTA to make entry into the country easier and seamless so that there is no paperwork or unnecessary delays for visitors," he said in Mombasa as the cruise liner MS Norwegian Dawn arrived with more than 3,100 people on board.
It is the largest vessel ever to dock at the port.
Ruto said the visa and eTA changes dovetail with recent changes made for international arrivals at the country's major airports.
Kenya welcomed 6,561 cruise tourists in 2024, according to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife.
Kenya's international tourist arrivals rose 15% to 2.4 million in 2024 from 2.09 million a year earlier.
