Representatives of the UN team in Russia and the headquarters of UNEP and FAO spoke about the initiatives and activities within the framework of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.

The implementation of the program is planned for the period from 2021 to 20230 inclusive. During this period, colossal work must be carried out to restore the resources of the planet. Cleaning up rivers, seas and oceans, greening megalopolises, restoring forests and protecting them at the highest level - these are just some of the tasks set by the world leaders. Also, one of the important directions of the program is to change the approach to the work of the business community, including manufacturing enterprises.

Speaking about the program, the UN Goodwill Ambassador, Vyacheslav Fetisov, noted that today nature, ecology, climate, biodiversity are the basis of future life.

«Before that, we were illiterate, and we can say, we treated nature in a barbaric way. And this leads to the degradation of everything that concerns the future of our children and grandchildren. The experience of holding a year of ecology and other similar events is a good initiative, but practically nothing has been done in a year.

And we recognize that Russia, as the largest territory, ecosystem, must support this initiative - the UN proposal. Ten years is a sufficient period, during this time we will have time to do a lot, first of all, to establish interagency cooperation. Today we have enough problems associated with climate change and the environment - children are allergic, oncology has become a problem for younger generatiin... This is all directly related to factors such as what we breathe and what we eat. In a 10-year format, we will be able to unite efforts, create our own programs, find sources of funding. I hope that the initiative will be supported,» said Vyacheslav Fetisov.
