The All-Russian Bell Ringing Festival "Crystal Bells" will take place in Kargopol, Arkhangelsk Region, in mid-January. Traditionally, it is timed to coincide with the Christian holiday of the Baptism of the Lord. From January 15 to 17, in the run-up to the festival, an Ice Sculpture Contest will be held. And from the 17th to the 19th, guests will be able to immerse themselves deeply in the art of bell ringing. Information about this is posted on the website of the Kargopol Historical, Architectural, and Art Museum.
“The theme of the festival in 2025 is “Bells and Ringing: Legends and Facts.” Kargopol will gather the best masters of bell ringing, connoisseurs of their work, tourists, and creative professionals from all over Russia,” the museum noted.
The bell ringing festival will be held for the 21st time and has already become an integral part of the cultural life of the ancient city of Kargopol and is aimed at preserving the traditions of Russian bell ringing.
As the museum reported, the festival also has a scientific component - a campanological symposium is held within its framework, thanks to which bell ringers share their professional experience with colleagues and guests.
For participants and visitors, there will be excursions, performances by musicians, workshops on painting wooden and clay bells, presentations of new exhibitions, a gastronomic festival "Kargopol Treats," children's events, daytime, evening, and even night bell concerts.
The festival will conclude on the evening of January 19 with a concert "Under the Enchanting Sounds" performed by the chamber symphony orchestra of the Vologda Philharmonic.
