Ice Age plant discovered in the Caucasus Nature Reserve

The plant is listed in the Red Books of Adygea and the Krasnodar Territory. A wetland plant is commonly found in northern areas. Thanks to the unusually beautiful inflorescences it received the name "Swamp Lilac»  among people. In the Caucasus, This species penetrated in the region during the ice age and is preserved here. It exists only in two places: in the Caucasus and Teberda reserves.

According to an environmental organizationt, the plant grows in swamps, which are an example of extinct relict lake-bog formations. Their age is up to 10 thousand years. Such complexes have been preserved in the valleys of the Belaya, Urushten and Mzymta rivers. At the same time, the plant in the Caucasus can be seen only on the swamp of the Fisht-Oshten massif. The area of ​​its sprouting does not exceed 0.02 hectares.
