The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has announced that the New Year countdown celebrations will make a physical return this year with an unprecedented outdoor “Hong Kong New Year Countdown Concert” at Art Park of West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) and extended an invitation to the public. The concert will be broadcasted on TV and live-streamed online to global audiences.
Mr Dane Cheng, HKTB Executive Director, said, “The HKTB has continued to maintain Hong Kong’s exposure and positive tourism image in the mainland and overseas markets through various promotions and campaigns. Following the launch of the annual ‘Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival’, the HKTB is now incessantly preparing for the physical staging of the ‘Hong Kong New Year Countdown Concert’. We are confident in hosting a world-class countdown concert to show global audiences Hong Kong’s exciting and energetic spirit as we step into the New Year while catering to the needs of public hygiene and anti-pandemic measures.”
With the strong support from the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, the first-ever ‘New Year Countdown Concert’ is full of new attention-worthy appeals. Staging in the WKCD Art Park, the concert offers an outdoor experience that is rarely seen in local performing art scenes. Also, the countdown clock will be displayed on the gigantic façade of the newly opened M+ so that the public can welcome 2022 in unison.
Featuring a star-studded cast, the concert is bound to bring back a much-anticipated countdown event to Hong Kong with young popular stars and music groups, including AGA, Alfred Hui, Gin Lee and MIRROR. The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the first Asian orchestra to receive the prestigious Gramophone Orchestra of the Year Award in 2019 and Asia’s foremost classical orchestra will also take part to deliver a high-spirited performance on the New Year’s Eve.
The concert is open to the public free of charge.
