Hockey match "Last Game on Lake Baikal" will be held on March 8

The hockey match "Last Game on Lake Baikal" will be held on March 8, 2021 in the Irkutsk region in the village of Bolshoye Goloustnoye, as per the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia.

The head of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, Alexander Kozlov, noted that the hockey match will open the Year of Baikal events in the Irkutsk region. The year 2021 in the region has been declared the Year of Baikal and is intended to draw attention to the importance of a responsible attitude to nature, the development of ecological tourism and environmental education.

The event will be attended by the Governor of the Irkutsk Region Igor Kobzev, the National Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Environment Program, the head of the All-Russian Society for the Conservation of Nature, two-time Olympic and seven-time world champion Vyacheslav Fetisov, as well as world hockey stars, representatives of business, environmental organizations, FSBI "Zapovednoe Pribaikalye".

Vyacheslav Fetisov said: “The match is held on March 8, because we want to make a gift not only to hockey fans, but also to women in our country, dedicating a separate event to them. A game for little hockey players is also planned.»

Such amateur matches are held regularly in various regions of the world with the support of the UN and the participation of professional hockey players from around the world. The main goal is to attract the younger generation to a healthy lifestyle, as well as to climate change issues.

After the hockey match, the volunteers of the All-Russian campaign for cleaning the banks of reservoirs from garbage "Water of Russia" ("Development Center of the All-Russian Chemical Combine of the Ministry of Natural Resources" of Russia) will clear the ice and the shores of Lake Baikal from the garbage after the match.
