The so-called "Chinese Hawaii" - Hainan - eliminated the coronavirus in its territory. According to the authorities, the last patient, a 40-year-old woman, was discharged after full recovery from a hospital in the administrative center of Haikou on March 24.
Since the breakout of the pandemic, 168 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported here, including six deaths. Over the past month and a half, not a single new case of infection has been registered here, although there are still seven infected without symptoms in the province, and there are 33 contactees in quarantine. The authorities considered the situation so stable that today they opened regular flights between Hainan and Wuhan in Central China, where the most powerful center of the spread of the new coronavirus in China was previously recorded.
"This means that the air channel has officially opened and constant air flights between the two regions have resumed," a representative of Wuhan airport commented on the event.
Hainan is considered one of the best vacation spots not only in China, but also in the world with more than 83 million visitors visiting the island last year. It differs from other popular destinations in Southeast Asia by its unique tropical climate with 300 sunny days a year. On the island, strict environmental standards are observed, there is a well-developed and dynamically developing infrastructure.
In an effort to mitigate the hit on the hospitality industry the provincial government took a number of measures to support the industry, including reducing, and in some cases even completely exempting travel companies from rents and taxes.
All arrivals in Hainan are subject to two-week quarantine; special hotels have been prepared for them with regular meals, garbage collection and room service, carried out with the necessary precautions. The island has declared a regime of minimal risk of pneumonia, but due to the rapid increase in the number of infected people in the world, the regional administration continues to maintain strict control.
