Residents of the two Balkan countries enjoy vacationing in each other's territories, according to travel agencies in Bulgaria and Greece. Greek tourists are particularly drawn to Bulgaria's ski resorts, such as Bansko, Borovets, and Pamporovo. Bulgarian mountains attract them with their long snow season and the appealing price-quality ratio.
Greek clients also show interest in Bulgaria's spa resorts, known for their mineral springs. The main one, Velingrad, is fully booked during the New Year period.
Visitors from Greece are also interested in pilgrimage tours to ancient monasteries, one of which, the St. Ivan Rilski Monastery, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Meanwhile, Bulgarians enjoy vacationing on the Aegean Sea coast both during the summer and the winter holidays. Greek hoteliers report an influx of Bulgarian tourists actively booking rooms in Thessaloniki, Kavala, and on the Halkidiki peninsula. Bulgarian guests appreciate the local service, seafood, colorful Christmas markets, and the warm Greek winter.
The lifting of border control due to Bulgaria's full accession to the Schengen Area is boosting the interest of residents from neighboring countries in mutual travel.
