The "Siberian Maslenitsa" festival will be held in the village of Novotyrshkino, Altai Territory, on March 1. Thousands of tourists from different regions of Russia come to this holiday every year. This year's program includes a fair, folk festivities, equestrian performances, a competition of Maslenitsa effigies, and competitions on a Maslenitsa pole. This was reported by the Tourist Portal of the Altai Territory.
The festivities are expected to be large-scale: "folk groups from different parts of the country converge on them in a Maslenitsa round dance," the portal notes.
"A rich fair pleases guests with hot national treats, delicious drinks and handmade gifts. A Maslenitsa post office operates at the festival site, and "Maslenitsa rubles" are in circulation, which can be earned in competitions and exchanged for prizes in a Maslenitsa shop," the message says.
The festival website reports that one of the traditions of the "Siberian Maslenitsa" is the burning of a six-meter effigy. This action will be a "truly fiery finale" of the holiday.
In addition, the festival hosts the "Our Maslenitsa" competition, which, according to the organizers, has already turned into a showcase of talents in the field of arts and crafts.
Anyone can become a participant, regardless of age, if they present an unusual Maslenitsa effigy made of natural materials.
"The effigy should evoke positive emotions, but at the same time not violate folk traditions of manufacturing - for example, it should not have a face," the organizers noted.
In 2019, the "Siberian Maslenitsa" was visited by about 37 thousand guests. At the same time, a Russian record was set for the largest Maslenitsa round dance (1134 people).
