A group of experts from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) returned from an expedition to the southwestern part of the Belomoro-Kuloisky plateau (Primorsky district of the Arkhangelsk region) and confirmed the high conservation value of this area, according to the organization.
Experts proposed to assign this territory the status of the National Forest Heritage of the country to protect it from felling and mining.
The purpose of the expedition was to study the natural value of a large array of pristine northern taiga.
The experts spent almost two weeks in the forest, studying the flora and fauna, landscapes, the state of the forest fund in the Mudyuga river basin.
According to the results of the work carried out, scientists reported that this territory has a great natural value in comparison with the economic one.
The expedition group included specialists from WWF Russia, the Northern Arctic Federal University (NArFU) and the St. Petersburg State University of Veterinary Medicine.
