When visiting specially protected natural areas of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug–Yugra, you will now need to pay an entrance fee. The corresponding decision was made last Friday at a meeting of the regional government, Kommersant reports.

The amount of fees charged for visiting specially protected natural areas by individuals is 0.5% of the established value of the subsistence minimum for the working-age population in Russia as a whole, the explanatory note says.

However, residents of the region, as well as residents of nearby settlements located in the protected areas, will be exempted from fees.

The indigenous people of the north won’t be charged either.

There are 18 protected areas in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.
