The highest mountain resort in Russia, Elbrus, has concluded its ski season, which lasted 208 days and became a record-breaker in many respects. The tourist flow increased by 12% and amounted to 499,104 people against 447,360 guests at the end of the last season. This was reported by the company "Kavkaz.RF" on its website.
"According to statistics, 57% of the resort's guests were skiers and snowboarders, 43% were tourists, which indicates an increased interest in the resort not only among skiers, but also among people who simply want to take a walk and enjoy the beauty of the mountains," the statement says.
The most popular month was March - 103,378 people came to the resort.
"Of course, we see a trend towards the year-round operation of Elbrus and expect a similar tourist flow in the summer season," the words of the CEO of "Kavkaz.RF" Andrey Yumsanov are quoted on the website.
This winter season, an official instructor service appeared on Elbrus for the first time - more than 150 specialists were accredited.
A snow park was launched at the resort, which was visited by more than 1,500 riders, and a large parking lot was opened.
In addition, the resort hosted the Russian Championship, the Russian Youth Championship and the Russian Cup stage in alpine skiing, in which more than 115 athletes from 16 regions took part.
"The legendary Elbrus, founded in Kabardino-Balkaria in the early 1970s, is now undergoing a large-scale modernization under the supervision of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia. Last season, 6 km of new scenic ski slopes of blue and red difficulty categories were laid, of which 2.5 km were opened, and the construction of a new skiing area is underway, which we will launch in 2026," the company quotes Deputy Minister of Economic Development Sergey Nazarov.
