The Russian ski resort of Elbrus has reported record-breaking visitor numbers for the second consecutive August, according to a statement from Kavkaz.RF, citing Deputy Minister of Economic Development Sergey Nazarov.
“For the second year in a row, August has become the most visited month of the year at Elbrus. The resort welcomed 105,383 tourists (compared to almost 99,000 last year), setting a new absolute monthly record for Elbrus, previously set in March this year when 103,378 people visited the resort,” the statement reads.
In total, the resort welcomed 266,000 visitors during the summer season, averaging 3,400 tourists per day.
During a recent trip to Kabardino-Balkaria, Nazarov, together with the CEO of Kavkaz.RF, Andrey Yumshanov, inspected the construction site of a new ski area in the Mir station area. A working group meeting on the development of the mountain resort was also held in Prielbrusye with the participation of the head of the region, Kazbek Kokov.
“The meeting participants noted that over 417,000 guests visited the North Caucasus mountain resorts of Elbrus, Arkhyz, and Veduchi in the first three months of summer 2024. This is 15% more than the same period last year,” the statement said.
“The steady growth of summer tourist flow to the North Caucasus resorts is due to the active development of infrastructure, the creation of picturesque hiking trails, as well as the holding of large-scale sports competitions, environmental events, and educational activities. We see that the summer and winter tourist flows have become almost equal,” Nazarov was quoted as saying by Kavkaz.RF.
According to Kazbek Kokov, the creation of the all-season tourist and recreational complex “Elbrus” is a very significant federal project that will lead to the development of the entire tourism sector of Kabardino-Balkaria. “In 2018, the volume of services rendered in the tourism sector was only one billion rubles, and in 6 years this figure has increased more than 13 times, and revenues to the budget have significantly increased. A lot is also being done to develop the infrastructure of the Elbrus region,” the head of the republic was quoted as saying in the statement.
