Egypt is expecting the number of tourists to visit the North African country this year to exceed 15 million, according to an official with the World Tourism Organization (WTO).
WTO economic adviser Saeed el-Batouti told Egypt’s official MENA news agency that the country recorded about 13 million visitors in 2019.
He said the expected growth in the number of tourists to Egypt this year is due to the country’s stability and the package of policies the country has adopted.
“Spain and Italy are among the markets that Egypt targets,” he said.
El-Batouti also called for the opening up of new tourist markets in Egypt and focusing on the religious tourism.
The tourism sector in Egypt was badly affected by political upheavals and security challenges that resulted from the ouster of two heads of state in 2011 and 2013.
