The cetacean stranding season in the Black Sea lasts from March to June. This was reported by the Dolphin Rescue Center "Delpha." The main causes of marine mammal deaths include fishing nets, weakened post-winter immunity, bad weather, and sea pollution.
"The number of dead cetaceans has started to increase again. Throughout February, 25 dead animals were found in the region. In the first week of March – 22," the "Delpha" center noted.
Three weakened dolphins were also discovered. Two individuals were spotted in Novorossiysk, and one in Gelendzhik. In such cases, it is almost impossible to help the cetaceans. Weakened dolphins do not have the strength to stay afloat on their own; if they are pushed back into the sea, they will most likely return or drown.
