At an off-site "round table" in Krasnoyarsk, with the participation of the State Duma committees on ecology and energy, State Duma deputy Dmitry Kobylkin positively assessed the implementation of the federal project "Clean Air".
Particular attention was paid to Norilsk Nickel's Sulfur Project, which is a key element of the program. The first line of the sulfur dioxide utilization complex was launched at the end of 2023, and Rosprirodnadzor confirmed the effectiveness of the technology.
"The Sulfur Program is the most important project in Norilsk Nickel's history today. It has no analogues in the world in terms of its scale and is the largest event of the federal program 'Clean Air.' Investments in its implementation amount to over 200 billion rubles, and the share of Russian equipment and technologies has been brought up to 75% in the Sulfur Program," said Nikolai Utkin, First Vice President of the company.
According to Utkin, 389.8 thousand tons of sulfur dioxide were utilized in 2024, and with the second line reaching full capacity in 2025, it is planned to achieve a total emission reduction of about 735 thousand tons from the 2017 baseline.
Kobylkin noted that Norilsk Nickel is successfully implementing the project despite the difficulties, and emphasized that the company is achieving its set goals.
Krasnoyarsk Region Governor Mikhail Kotyukov also confirmed the effectiveness of the Sulfur Program, noting that Rosprirodnadzor found the efficiency of sulfur-containing gas purification to be 99%.
In addition, Norilsk Nickel is implementing other environmental projects in the region, including the "Clean Norilsk" program and the introduction of an air quality environmental monitoring system.
